Building a Taylor SolidBody

We recently invited our friends at various magazines and blogs around the world to build their dream Taylor SolidBody. Using the online SolidBody Configurator, writers from London to Melbourne selected their pickups, colors, tailpieces and more. While the writers were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the guitars they designed, the Taylor factory in El Cajon, California was busy building and documenting the crafting process, as seen in the video below.

Among our guest designers in Australia were Peter at IHeartGuitarBlog.com (pictured right with Bob) and Jon at GuitarNoize.com. Peter went with a Doheny Green SolidBody Standard with a double cutaway, 3 Mini Humbuckers and tremolo, while Jon chose a Balboa Blue Standard with a double cutaway, Vintage Alnicos and a stop tailpiece. Each writer documented the process with a series of posts on his guitar’s construction. After receiving them, they shared their impressions. In his review, Peter called the build quality “incredible,” and noted that there was “more treble and more fullness” compared to other popular solidbody models.  Jon loved the tone control (“perhaps the best I’ve ever used”) and the “smooth, comfortable neck,” which he said makes reaching the upper register easy.

Read about Peter’s SolidBody experience over at IHeartGuitarBlog.com, and check out Jon’s video reviews below. Be sure to check back here soon for an upcoming SolidBody review and video demo from Guitarist, UK.
