New Mahogany-Top 300s

In addition to bringing all-mahogany models to the 500 Series, Taylor has introduced three mahogany-top guitars to the 300 Series: the Dreadnought 320, Grand Concert 322, and Grand Auditorium 324. All are available with an optional cutaway and Taylor Expression System® electronics.

The African sapele used for backs and sides of the 300 Series shares many of mahogany’s tonal properties; distinctions include slightly less midrange punch and an extra splash of treble brightness. Compared to a Sitka spruce top, the mahogany top’s greater density produces extra compression, which translates into a more controlled, focused tone. A spruce top will yield a quicker response, while a mahogany top adds a more subtle “roll-in” effect to the notes, along with even sustain. The mahogany’s tonal focus will articulate clearly with other instruments both on stage and in a recorded mix. The compression of the mahogany top will suit players who have a more aggressive strumming or picking attack.

To complement the dark, rich-grained complexion of the mahogany tops, these models feature a black pickguard with a mix of black binding and white purfling and a crisp black and white rosette. An all-satin finish evokes an earthy vintage aura.
