Recently, we’ve become aware of an increase in scam websites claiming to sell genuine Taylor products. It’s possible that you’ve seen ads for these sites on social media sites. We care about our customers and the musicians who choose to play our guitars, and we want to do what we can to help you avoid falling victim to one of these scams.
Tips for Spotting Scam Websites
- Watch for websites with suspicious URLs or unusual extensions. Some scam websites will have URLs with unusual elements, while others will look fairly normal and may be tougher to spot. Domain extensions other than “.com” are obvious signals that a site may be fraudulent. We’ve been notified of sites that do use the “.com” domain extension, so make sure to check the entire URL. To be clear: TaylorGuitars.com and PowersElectricGuitars.com are the ONLY URLs affiliated with Taylor.
- Ads on social media (especially Facebook/Meta) leading to websites that look suspicious.
- Prices, discounts or “free gifts” being offered with a purchase of a guitar. A good rule of thumb: If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
- Potential counterfeit guitars sold through websites like Amazon, Facebook Marketplace, eBay, Craigslist, Alibaba, Aliexpress and Taobao. Most counterfeit Taylor guitars are produced in Asia; Taylor does NOT build any guitars outside of Southern California or Tecate, Mexico. Some counterfeit sellers will also claim to be trying to get rid of a guitar obtained through inheritance or provide some other story. These are intended to deceive customers, so don’t be fooled. You can look for trademarked designs such as the Taylor peghead shape and Taylor logo, the bridge design and the pickguard design.
You can always email our customer service team if you need help verifying the authenticity of a guitar. Providing the serial number and photos of the guitar in question helps us make a determination.
Avoid Scams by Buying Through an Authorized Taylor Dealer
The surest way to avoid getting scammed and losing money to a fraudulent website is to only purchase Taylor guitars through our authorized dealer network or directly from TaylorGuitars.com. If you’re unsure if a shop is an authorized Taylor retailer, you can use our Dealer Locator tool to check if it’s in our database. If you don’t see it there, you shouldn’t trust it. You can also contact our customer service team.
