Recognizing Excellence in Music Education

Congratulations to Sharon Evans, a music teacher at Hope Elementary School in Carlsbad, California, who was  recently recognized for her outstanding work in music education at the school. Mrs. Evans received  the Peripole-Bergerault State General Music Educator Award, given by the California Association of Music Educators (CMEA) to honor excellence in general classroom music education.  Last year she was recognized with CMEA’s Southern Border Section General Music Educator Award.

Hope Elementary is an affiliate of the Taylor Guitars for Schools program, which has provided Mrs. Evans’ classroom with 22 Baby Taylor guitars. The guitars were donated through the San Diego Music Foundation to be used for primary guitar instruction. The Taylor Guitars for Schools program was founded in 2001 and since then has donated 1,700 guitars to elementary schools throughout San Diego County. By all estimates, the program has benefitted 20,000 school-aged children.
