Taylor Celebrates 11 Years of Music in Schools

On Monday, August 8, Taylor Guitars and the San Diego Music Foundation (SDMF) celebrated 11 years of supporting music education in schools at the San Diego Music Awards. The annual awards show honors the best of the local San Diego music scene and raises the necessary dollars to help fund music education in San Diego County schools through the Taylor Guitars for Schools program. Held at Humphrey’s By the Bay, the awards event raised over $25,000 through ticket sales, sponsors and charitable donations.

Since 2000, the SDMF and Taylor Guitars have worked closely to introduce the guitar to public elementary and middle school curricula throughout San Diego County as a way to augment existing programs and to offset the loss of arts instruction due to budget cuts. Over the past 11 years, Taylor and the SDMF have donated over 1,600 Baby and Big Baby Taylor guitars to nearly 100 schools in San Diego County, helping at least 20,000 students develop a love for music. This year, Taylor plans to donate another 200 Baby and Big Baby Taylor guitars to local elementary schools, and in the fall, expand the program to include two local high schools, which will receive SolidBody electric guitars.
