Taylor Expression System Amplifier Debuts in Limited Builder’s Reserve Set

Fueled by a passion for pristine tone and exquisite details, Taylor Guitars is readying the release of a special Builder’s Reserve set: an Expression System® (ES) acoustic amplifier and a matching Grand Symphony guitar.

Designed by Taylor’s product development team over a period of a few years, the ES amplifier marks a first for the company, completing the signal chain for an acoustic player looking to plug in. Crafted with the ES-playing guitarist in mind, the 40-watt bi-amped speaker arrangement features an eight-inch custom Eminence poly-cone woofer for clean low end and a one-inch textile dome tweeter to offer the clearest highs. The bi-amp design enables the amp to reproduce the full, natural sounding bass of the guitar while maintaining the crystal-clear highs. Working in conjunction with the volume, bass and treble control knobs on an Expression System-equipped Taylor guitar, the amp features a simple volume control, reflecting Taylor’s philosophy behind the ES: “your guitar, only louder.”

Unlike many other amps, this Builder’s Reserve edition of ES amps is designed to rival a beautifully crafted piece of art. Each amp is housed in a flamed maple cabinet, with inset side panels of flamed mahogany laminate that feature an elegant “Pasadena Torch” inlay crafted from maple and bubinga wood. The result is a stunning showpiece.

Available only as part of the special Builder’s Reserve set, the amp is accompanied by a matching Grand Symphony guitar (GSce) with flamed mahogany back and sides and is topped with European spruce. Designed to showcase the stunning patterns of the flamed mahogany, the guitar features a matching maple armrest and binding, a fretboard and peghead inlay of the “Pasadena Torch,” and a bubinga and maple rosette. The GSce also comes with a Venetian cutaway and Expression System acoustic electronics.

Taylor’s Builder’s Reserve program was started in 2008 to utilize unique, ultra-limited wood sets, which the company has been accumulating in its private reserves over its nearly 40-year history. Each of the amplifier and guitar pairs will come with a full-gloss finish, a custom Builder’s Reserve label, and the GSce, in a hardshell case. The pair will be available at select Taylor dealers as a matched set beginning in late January.
